This is a great pattern for those one-ball impulse purchases (it looked so pretty, I know!), odd balls, and partial balls.  Same goes with skeins and hanks.  It's great for variegated yarns, too. 
    
For the Wide Bobble Headband, I used about half a hank of Fleece Artist Kid Silk 2 Ply (a present from Crochet Me Kim) and for the Simple Bobble Headband, I used a partial ball (about 40g) of a dk weight mystery yarn (I think it's a silk/cotton blend, but I haven't done a burn test) that I got at the Goodwill Outlet in Portland, OR. 
    
You can adapt these patterns to suit a variety of yarns and yarn weights (and head sizes) by adjusting the number of dc rows worked at the beginning and ending of the pattern and by adjusting the number of bobbled rows.  You might want to adjust your hook size, too.  It's up to you and what works with your yarn!  For the wide headband, I like to adjust the number of bobbled rows in the thinnest (first/last-bit) bobble sections and the widest (middle) bobble section, but this is your headband, so you do what you like!
    
Also keep in mind the stretch factor of your yarn.  Silk and cotton yarns don't have any stretch and won't "bounce back" like wools and such, so you probably want to make them a bit tighter (the stitches will stretch a bit after you wear or block them) than their wooly counterparts.

    Note:  This was just enough for me to make 2 wide headbands, although that was cutting it pretty close.  And like I said, feel free to adjust your yarn & hook and fiddle with the pattern as necessary.

3.    Notions:  Yarn needle for weaving in ends.  

        St:  stitch
        Ch:  chain
        Sl st:  slip-stitch
        Sc:  single-crochet
        Sc2tog:  (sc decrease) insert hook in stitch, yo, draw a loop through st (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next st, yo, draw a loop through st (3 loops on hook), yo, draw through all 3 loops on hook.  Basically, you're turning two sc stitches into one.  Shocking!  This is the opposite of working two sc in one stitch (sc increase). 
        Dc:  double-crochet
        Rep:  repeat
        Yo:  yarn-over
        Bo:  bobble -- yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw a long loop through st (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook in same st, draw a long loop through st (5 loops on hook), yo, insert hook in same st, draw a long loop through st (7 loops on hook), yo, draw through all 7 loops on hook.   This is my own version of what is sometimes called the pineapple stitch. 
    NOTE:  Bobbles are worked on the wrong side of the work.  And by work, I mean headband.  The turning chain (aka "the t-ch") does not count as a stitch unless otherwise instructed.  I know the t-ch at the end of the bobble row feels like it's function is to close the bobble and you will be tempted to do an additional ch-1 afterwards, but don't!  Do the bobble, chain 1, and turn. The first stitch of the next row is worked in the bottom of the bobble, not the ch-1.  I'm telling you this for your own good.  I learned this the hard way so you don't have to.  =D
